H-Mode mixer Frontend Project

Component kits

Many components used in the frontend are not easily available through the common electronic parts suppliers. This is especially the case for good RF capacitors and Micrometals toroids used in the BPF filters and on the frontend board. Certainly the high Q ATC chip capacitors are hard to get. For this reason www.rfmicrowave.it is willing to supply a couple of component kits for this project.

The following kits are made available:

  • AKE-1

This kit consists of all ATC100-B chip capacitors needed in the BPF box. The price is €99 for a total of 99 capacitors.

  • AKE-2

This kit consists of all iron powder toroids needed in the BPF box. The price is €45 for a total of 38 iron powder toroids.

  • AKE-3

This kit consists of all ATC100-A chip capacitors needed on the frontend mixer/roofing filter board. The price is €50 for a total of 56 capacitors.

  • AKE-4

This kit consists of all T50-10 iron powder toroids needed on the frontend mixer/roofing filter board. The price is €8 for a total of 10 iron powder toroids.

  • AKE-5

This kit consists of all trimmer capacitors needed in the CW roofing filter. The price is €4.40 for a total of 6 Philips foil trimmers.

Please note that I am not commercially connected with RFMicrowave.it. I am just passing through the info because it may help builders to reproduce my frontend more easily. For more information on these component kits please contact Franco Rota, I2FHW, from www.rfmicrowave.it directly.

Possible alternatives are: AVX AQ14 capacitors from www.mouser.com, similar in performance to ATC100-B. Amidon USA has a web shop where toroids can be ordered directly. Minicircuits has a web shop where the T1-6T transformers can be ordered. Especially for USA based builders toroids can also be ordered at quite affordable price from the "Toroid King" at www.kitsandparts.com!

Finally I have added a column in each BPF filter component table on this website that shows the practical values when ATC100-B capacitors are being used in the BPF's. They are sometimes slightly differing from the Polystyrene capacitors values.
